Heat treatment:
Heat treatment temperatures, rate of heating, cooling and soaking times will vary due to factors such as the shape and size of each component. Other considerations during the heat treatment process include the type of furnace, quenching medium and work piece transfer facilities.
Hardening:
Hardening temperature/℃: 840~870, Quenching in oil

Forging Properties:
For forging 1.2714 steel, Slowly Pre-heat, at Hot-working temperature/℃: 1050~850
Stress Reliving:
When tools made from 1.2714 steel are heavily machined or ground, the relief of internal strains is advisable before hardening to minimize the possibility of distortion. Stress relieving of this grade should be done after rough machining. To stress relieve, heat the component carefully to 600-650°C, allow a good soaking period, about two hours per 25mm of section. Cool in the furnace to 500°C then freely in air. Tools may then be finish machined before hardening.
Normalizing:
Annealing:
Annealing temperature/℃: 680~710; After the annealing, degree of hardness ≤HBS: 250

Machine ability:
Machinability of tool steel L6 is very good. It rates 90% of the machinability of the W-group water hardening low alloy steels rated 100% as a baseline.
